Housing Resources received a grant from the U.S. Dept. of Ag Rural Development for $946,240 that is effective through Sept. 30, 2011, with a requirement to build 40 homes in Mesa County within the two-year period.
The program gives families the means to afford their own homes by performing a portion of the labor. Families who participate contribute a minimum of 30 hours of labor/week for approx. 6-8 months under qualified supervision. The families'
"sweat equity" eliminates the down payment on the home and allows them to possibly qualify for a reduced mortgage rate.
