Housing Resources get grand to build 40 homes in the Grand Valley

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Many families are struggling to find shelter in Mesa County with affordable housing vacancies less than one percent. But for some families, there might be hope in the near future.

The Mutual Self-Help Housing Program with Housing Resources has received a federal grant to build forty homes in the Grand Valley.

"We're actually getting an influx of applications, which is what we want. Because the quicker we can use up the money, the faster we can build the homes in the valley," says Katie Wilson with the Mutual Self-Help Housing Program.

The program wants to build the homes in more rural areas rather than urban. So it is looking at land in Fruita and Palisade.

There is no cost to participate in the program, but the requirements include:
